Welcome to Thorne Brewery
The Thorne Brewery Community Interest Company has worked hard to secure the funding needed to start up the business, and can now proudly say brewing is coming back to Thorne. Thanks to the generous backing and understanding of our funders, we are now in the start up phase. This is fantastic news for Thorne and for Real Ale lovers nationwide. Our first beer "Thorne Best Bitter" will available to buy from May 2009.
The Board gratefully acknowledges the support of Key Fund Yorkshire, Unltd (The Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs), Doncaster Central Development Trust Grassroots Grants, the Adventure Capital Fund, Success Doncaster, North Doncaster Development Trust, Business Link Yorkshire and Doncaster CVS. Thank you all for your support and guidance. Links to all these organisations can be found on our links page.
Our aims are to create employment and training opportunities for local people, and to open a visitor's centre. Please sign up for the e-newsletter for details of these opportunities as they arise. This will be the first place that you will hear about them.
The share issue will be soon be launched. Please complete and return the Friends of Thorne Brewery membership form. For a share payment of £100, dividends will be paid annually in our products (beer!). The shares will help to finance the business and demonstrate our community ownership. Any remaining trading profits will be ploughed back into the Company and the community to support our aims.
Our Logo
The company is working to promote Thorne, and our logo includes representations of the different aspects of the town. At the centre is the white rose of Yorkshire, behind this is an anchor. This symbolises the tradition of boat building which still goes on today. To the sides are wheat to show how important agriculture has been to the growth of the town, and above them are nightjars. This nocturnal bird can be found on the Thorne Moors, one of the most significant wetland areas in the UK.
I hope you enjoy your visit to our website and please sign up to our e-newsletter for regular progress updates.
